Pondering the Proverbs – Day 5

“Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth” (Proverbs 5:18)

Central to this chapter in Proverbs is the idea of sexual and relational purity. Solomon is warning his sons of the dangers of sexual sin. He is warning them to guard their heart and minds, to guard their integrity, to have eyes only for their wives and guard that sacred relationship with all of their might.

Unfortunately today, our society, even many of those who claim to be Christian have, so cheapened the marriage relationship that it seems almost odd to know someone who has been faithfully married to the same person all of their adult life. We have so cheapened the idea of marriage in society that this generation thinks it normal to have sex with multiple partners before marriage and that it is expected that people may wonder even when married. We have forgotten that God created marriage. God created the desire in a man and a woman to be united in this special relationship. We have forgotten that God intended marriage to be a life long commitment between one man and one woman. We have forgotten that marriage is a microcosm of the Church and illustrates to the world that the love of Christ for His Church.

Let us renew our commitment to the biblical truth about marriage. Let us teach the next generation the biblical truth about marriage. Let us guard our with intentional passion our hearts and our minds so that we can be men and women of integrity in all areas of life especially the area of marriage.

Meditating Through the Psalms – Day 150

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 150:6)

We have made it through our journey. We have come to the final crescendo of praise in the Psalms. It is fitting that we started this journey by being reminded that the Blessed man is the one who delights in the law of the Lord, because it is he who understands the ways of the Lord and it is he who is compelled to praise the Lord for His marvelous works.

Let us ever be mindful of what God has done and what God is doing in human history and let us use every breath to in some way praise the Lord. He is worthy to be praise. He and He alone deserves our worship. Let us honor Him with our life and our voice. He is the giver and sustainer of life. Let us join the Psalmist and shout to the masses, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”

Grace to all,

Meditating Through the Psalms – Day 149

“For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation.” (Psalm 149:4)

Again this morning the Psalmist calls us to “Praise the Lord!” He exhorts us to “Sing to the Lord a new song.” The Psalmist calls us to this crescendo of praise because of Who God is and what He has done. What is it that He has done that deserves such praise? He has granted His mercy and grace to we who are at the core of our nature depraved and naturally inclined to suppress the truth of God and go our own way rather than God’s way. He has dealt with sin in His Son Jesus Christ and made a way for the guilty to be reconciled with Him in Christ. He has poured out His wrath against sinners on His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life!

Those who come to faith in Christ become His adopted children; joint heirs with Jesus Christ. They have their sin guilt imputed to Christ and the righteousness of Christ imputed to them making them innocent before a Holy and Just God. He has redeemed to Him self a people whom He loves with an everlasting love. So today we can join the Psalmist in this call to a crescendo of praise because we know first hand that “The Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation.”

Grace to all,

Meditating Through the Psalms – Day 148

“Let them praise the name of the Lord! For He commanded and they were created.” (Psalm 148:5)

The Psalmists begins to bring this wonderful book to a close with a crescendo of praise which will be the heart of the next three Psalms. Here he reminds us that it is because of the eternal decree of the Sovereign Creator of the universe that we and all that is around us exist. It is because of His sustaining power that we and all of creation have been established. It is because of His mercy and common grace that we are able to continue to exist. It is in Him that we move and breath and have our being.

In light of this great truth every day should be a day of praise. Every day should begin and end with we the creatures worshiping the Creator. Unfortunately all to often we relegate our worship of our Lord to one or maybe two days a week. But, as the Psalmist reminds us today, our life should be a ever present crescendo of praise and worship to the One who has given us life and has allowed us to continue to fill our lungs with His air. It is to Him that we owe everything about our existence and we should fill the air with His praise. We should shout His accolades to the world. So, today and every day for the rest of our lives, let us join the Psalmist and “praise the name of the Lord!”

Grace to all,

Ronnie

Meditating Through the Psalms – Day 147

“But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.” (Psalm 147:11)

While men delight in their own strength and are amazed and the physical prowess of others, God looks at the heart of a man. While the world looks at the power and accomplishment of those who wield command and authority rising to the top of the cooperate ladder, God looks at the soul of a man.

It is not the strength of a man that impresses the Lord. It is not the wealth of a man that impresses the Lord. It is not the economic or social status of a man that impresses the Lord. No, the man that humbles himself before a Holy God finds favor in the Lord. The man who recognizes his own sinfulness and repents with a broken and contrite heart finds the grace of God and is pleasing to the Lord. So today we must recognize the truth of the Psalmist that “The Lord take pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.” The question then is “whom do you fear?” “In who do you place your hope?”

Grace to all,

Ronnie

Meditating Through the Psalms – Day 146

“The Lord watches over the sojourners; He upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked He brings to ruin.” (Psalm 146:9)

Today we see the total aspect of God’s perfect character. We see His loving kindness to those who are broken in spirit and who have been left alone in society. We see His grace and mercy as He helps the helpless and redeems the repentant. I can’t help but be reminded of the words of that old hymn “Rescue the Perishing:” Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save. God is loving and kind and longsuffering.

However, at the same time His righteous indignation burns against the wicked at this present moment. The wicked may escape for a time, but there is coming a day when the judgment of God will be unleashed upon the wicked of this world and all who are without Christ will be judged guilty. He will in His time bring the way of the wicked to ruin. The call today is for those who are lost. Those who have not repented of their sin and trusted Christ as their savior. Today is the day of salvation. Come to Christ today and be forgiven.

Grace to all,

Ronnie
